Live Love Rescue

It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost a year since I rekindled my love of sewing. When I set out to make a face mask for my hubby and I, I never could have imagined the chain of events that would take place.

It started with a Facebook picture of us wearing a mask and that is where the real journey began.

The morning after I posted that picture I was tagged in a Facebook post about an urgent care center looking for face masks. I responded to the post and said I would be happy to make some for them. Little did I know that this was going to be the start of Stitches of Kindness.

By October 2020 I had donated over 5,000 masks to various hospitals, nursing homes, food stores, Boy Scouts and other local non profits. As supplies of PPE began to meet the demand I was able to refocus my efforts into raising money for other non profits. I began sewing more masks and scrub caps on social media and at local events. It was my goal to be able to donate the profits from these sales to local non profits as a way to build stronger relationships and a stronger community. Each month starting in September I chose a different non profit and customized the masks and other products around their missions and organizations. To date I have donated over $3,000 with no intention of stopping.

I do believe everything happens for a reason and when I reconnected with a friend from high school it became very clear that this was divine intervention. Our love of dogs and her commitment to Saving Grace Animal Rescue of MD, made this connection inevitable.

Starting in April I will be making and donating dog collars, leashes and bandanas. It is my hope that these items will help to free up funds to be used in other areas as well as making these fur babies so adorable that they will quickly find their forever homes.

As Stitches of Kindness grows there are more ways that you can help and get involved.
